why use art for addictions recovery?

Just a few words on the significant benefits of Art interventions for recovering persons:
  • art given an instant 'snapshot' of the inner life... giving key insights for recovery and relapse prevention.
  • art doesn't lie!... it cuts thru the 'B.S.' and any defenses with ease. Pollock said: Art must be the axe to smash the frozen sea inside us!
  • the deepest parts of the human are easily exposed thru the skill of a very good facilitator, who has a highly developed spiritual side of themselves.
note: you don't need any art skills to get the most out of this... it's all about expression... letting the inside spill out on the page.
let me know your thoughts, or if you want any advice...
just blog me or email: info@innercare.org

Brian

I got a picture of my internal world, it was a dark place, i was very angry, my inner child was very hurt and wounded, i experienced feelings of grief i didn't know were possible as i got in touch with myself for the first time in my life.. I was so shut down, unable to articulate my self and art somehow showed "me". I was encouraged to journal with my art work, this was unbelieveable and at times i doubted what was coming through, i journaled with my different chakra's, this always stands out for me, i learnt from my art, that i used "Fantasy" massively as a way to cope as a child from the loneliness and neglect i experienced in my family home, and still use it today. Brian supported me through many sessions of art therapy, I will never forget that journey, i hope one day i will get to experience that again,
